All 22 Florida Prep Stars selected in 2020 NFL Draft

Updated: Apr 30, 2020

Jacksonville FL-

The 2020 NFL Draft kicked off last Thursday, and 22 former Florida high school prep stars received a life changing phone call from NFL owners.

Former UF Gators DB, CJ. Henderson of Miami's Columbus HS got the first call in the 1st round by the Jacksonville Jaguars with the 9th pick. The Jaguars would also draft a hometown kid in LB Shaquille Quarterman of Oakleaf by way of the Miami Hurricanes in the 4th round with pick number 140. The Jaguars also signed Gators' sure handed WR from Halledale High (Broward Co.) Josh Hammond to an undrafted free agent contract.

The Dolphins would select Jacksonville Native and Raines High graduate guard Solomon Kindley of Georgia in the 4th round with the 111th pick. Kindley will now become the 24th player from Raines to play at least one year in the NFL. Miami also drafted DE Jason Strowbridge (UNC) from Columbus HS.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers wouldn't select any former Sunshine State greats but they'd ink another Jacksonville native, Trinity Christian's Javon Hagan(DB) of Ohio to a free agent deal last Saturday. Hagan's former Trinity Christian teammate Dominique Ross signed a free agent deal with the New York Giants. Many can argue that the 2013 3A State Champion Trinity Christian Conquerors had one of the most star studded, and loaded teams ever assembled in Jacksonville, Florida. It consisted of Hagan,Ross, LB Jeff Holland of the LA Rams, DB Kevin Toliver of the Chicago Bears, WR Isaiah Ford, and DT Ken Norton of the Dolphins.

The football factory IMG Ascenders led the way with 4 players drafted while Columbus HS, and Deerfield Beach HS, tied with 2. Broward County led the way with six players drafted while Dade, and Hillsborough counties tied with 2.

Jacksonville had 5 players to get a call last weekend, 2 drafted, and 4 players signed undrafted free agent contracts including one of college football's fastest players DB Javaris Davis who fittingly inked with the Superbowl Champs Kansas City Chiefs. Davis attended Ed White and Auburn. Former Mandarin kicker Nick Vogal (UAB) signed with the Baltimore Ravens.

UF Gators receivers Van Jefferson, and Tyrie Cleveland both grew up in Jacksonville before moving to Tennessee, and Texas respectively for highschool. Jefferson was selected by the Rams in the 2nd round with pick number 57, and Cleveland was selected in the 7th round with pick number 252 by Denver. Broncos' GM John Elway made the highest number of calls to the Sunshine State as he selected 4 players. The AFC EAST GM's acquired the most Florida talent, Dolphins 2, Bills 2, and the Patriots 1.

Next year's draft looks to be just as promising for Jacksonville as Ohio State's highly touted DB Shaun Wade(Trinity) will more than likely go in the 1st round. Alabama's QB Mac Jones(Bolles) can enhance his draft stock this fall as he looks to become Saban's full time signal caller. Florida State WR. DJ Matthews (Trinity), University Central Florida RB Otis Anderson, the speedster WR Willie Wright (Raines) and teammate DB Quran Hafiz(Sandalwood) of Florida Atlantic University, along Iowa St. DE Jaquan Bailey (Raines) will have their names on 2021 draft boards.
