DUVAL MIDDLE SCHOOL WEEK 1 OPENER

TYRESE SMITH 90YD TD RUN

DUVAL CO. FLORIDA--

Duval Co. public middle schools kicked off their first week of football with a bang as several heavy weight matchups took place all over the city such as a 43-42 shoot out in which the Landon Lions scored as timed expired to win over the Kernan Ospreys. On the westside the Arlington Vikings took on the Jeb Stuart Raiders, in a defensive battle in which the Raiders won 14-6 in overtime. RB Mike Wyche 40yd td run was the lone score of the game until the bottom of the 4th when Vikings fullback #45 scored up the middle from 5yds out to force the extra period. Davaughn Patterson would score the go ahead 10yd td run and the 2pt run to take the 14-6 victory. Also on the westside the 2017 semi finalist Dupont Dragons would be served doughnuts by the Lakeshore Warriors 28-0. 7th grader Brandon Brown made a huge splash blocking a punt and recovering it for a TD. 2017 semi finalist Landmark Seahawks hosted a doughnut party on southside for the Twin Lakes T'Wolves 26-0. The Seahawks have a ton of talent and will be trouble for teams on their flight towards another district title. Another big time matchup would be the 2017 county runner ups Jeff Davis Chargers traveling across the Buckman Bridge to play the Mandarin Hawks. Jeff Davis looks to be charging towards another title shot as they defeated the Hawks 20-6. The Mayport Sharks had a bye for week 1 and will host the 0-1 Cookman Vikings.

SINCERE COHEN 7/126/2TDS BUTLER FALCONS 22-8 OVER COOKMAN

The North Division seems to be the dominant division in week as all their teams won, scoring 148 points and giving up just 34. Every game in the North Division will have playoff implications just as years past with 4 out of 5 titles coming from the North. The the new look Gilbert Panthers led by 1st year head coach Dejaun Green are still up to their winning ways. DB CJ Dorsey had 2 INTs, DB TJ Holland had 1 INT, and 2017 Top50Player Cliff Richardson scored a TD to help the perennial powerhouse and 3x champion Gilbert Panthers win 14-0 over JWJ Trojans. Sincere Cohen rushed 7x for 156yds and 2tds to help the Butler Falcons win 22-8 over the Cookman Vikings. Cohen is a big, physical, bruising runner that's not going to be fun to tackle this season. Look for Sincere Cohen to be among the cities rushing leaders come years end. LB/DE Miles Smith had a huge day helping the Oceanway Bucs shut out the Baldwin Indians 18-0. MIles Smith is very explosive off the edge and is a sure tackler, look for Smith to be a leader in sacks and tackles.

QB/DB Roman Doles 35yd td run and RB Marcus Solomon 15yd td run helped the Highlands Wildcats defeat the Southside Knights 14-6. Doles also made a ton of plays on defense as well coming up with a INT. The Trio of Doles, Solomon and the speedster Deshyh Beufort will put up huge numbers this season for the Wildcats. Head Coach Jamall Sanders have the Yellow Jackets off to a fast start for the 2nd year in a row with a 28-14 win over the Stilwell Patriots. Linemen Raymond Bizier, and Mario Hampton opened holes up all game for RB Donya Vorden who was impressive scoring 3tds on 67,16, and 3yd runs. FB Benny Lewis scored on a 1yd dive as well. The Yellow Jackets 5 forced fumbles stifled the Patriots offense all day long. Key Mistakes by Northwestern's offense contributed to some Stilwell's points like a snap over the QB's head that was converted into a score. The Patriots QB had a nice day making plays. He also scored on a 30yd run. Coach Sanders will find out a lot about his team next week as they host the 3x champs Gilbert Panthers. The Kirby Smith Comets had 1 of the biggest wins in the city traveling to the southside and steam rolling the Fort Caroline Cavaliers 38-0. RB Jayden Taylor made a ton of plays for the Comets scoring a td on offense, and logging 5 tackles with a pass break up on defense. The Comets offense may still be running as they ran for 4 total TDs against the Cavs. WR King Johnson will be a huge X factor for Kirby this season.

The biggest win of the day would come from the reigning Duval County Champion Ribault Colts over the Neptune Beach powerhouse Fletcher Senators 14-6. The game would start 30mins or so late due to Fletcher's bus troubles, and so would the Senator's machine of an offense which would be shut out in the 1st half. Colts QB Tyrese Smith showed his athleticism, and speed scoring on a 35yd run where he 2 stepped past a defender before crossing the goal line on the Colts 1st drive. Smith also had a spectacular 90yd TD run just before halftime where the score would be 14-0. The Colts would be looking to cruise in the 2nd half but the well coach, former 2015 champion Senators would come to play on both sides in the 2nd half shutting out the Colts offense. The Senator's offense would get the ball to start the 3rd quarter and keep it the entire period grinding it slowly down the field. RB Mista Duffy would cap off the drive with a 5yd td run leaving the Colts just 24 seconds to work with in the period. The score would be 14-6 after the failed 2pt run. Tyrese Smith would seemingly match the score on a crazy 50yd run but it was negated due to a penalty. The Senators defense would impose their will on the Colts from that point forcing a couple turn over on downs and a late interception by Gio Battles to give Fletcher a shot at tying the game and forcing overtime. Ribault's defense would rise to the occasion led by lineman Jeris White, helped force a Senators bad snap that would end their last hopes of a come back. Ribault would hold on to win the game 14-6.
