Green Cove Cougar 3-0 mid season report.

CLAY CO. FLORIDA-

Normal prey for a Cougar would typically be deer, mountain goats, elk, and wild sheep, but the Green Cove Cougars seems to have an appetite for it all this season as they've feasted on Gators, Eagles, and Wildcats to start the season 3-0.

The Cougars' defense led by sack masters Garrison Butler, and Gage Isbell have gobbled up opposing offenses so far only giving up 12 points. The secondary has ate up a plenty of footballs with Joseph Forte, Payton Dykas, and Jayden Jenkins each registering at least 1 interception.

To open the season the Cougars completely destroyed Lakeside 38-0, and Wilkinson 23-6. After a de-facto bye week caused by hurricane Dorian, Green Cove's offensive attack slowed down a bit as they only scored 12 points against Wilkinson. The Cougars will play Baker Co. in a September 3rd make up game on Oct 1st.

Against Lakeside, the super talented athlete Jayden Jenkins had a monster game as he logged 3 total TDs including a 50yd bomb to Payton Dykas. Butler also had a huge day rushing for 2 TDs.

Against Wilkinson Jenkins continued to shine racing past Eagles' defenders as he returned a 2nd quarter punt for a TD.

Isbell, and Butler controlled the trenches all game long. The Eagles had no answer for the duo as their ball carriers were grounded in the backfield due to their relentless attack. Butler registered a safety in the early goings of the game to give his team a spark, and a slight lead until Jenkins went to work.

Against Orange Park, Gunner Ivey would lead the defensive charge as he would set the tone for the Cougars on the 1st play of the game by forcing a fumble. The rest of the Cougars' defenders would follow suit as they'd only give up 6 points to the flying Wildcats.

Jayden Jenkins, and Garrison Butler each found the endzone, to help pull out a hard fought 12-6 win. Jenkins, and Butler have scored in each of the Cougars' victories thus far.

Another offensive explosion will be key for the Cougars as take on a very big meal in the Lake Asbury Tigers. If the Cougars are to improve to 4-0 Gage Isbell, and Garrison Butler will have to have another dominant performance to contain the Tigers' offense led by the talented Kayleb Singelton. With all eyes on Jenkins, and rightfully so, look for the X-factor Payton Dykas to make some really huge plays.
