RAINES CLOCK THE COMMANDERS 48-6 IN THURSDAY ACTION

WESTSIDE DUVAL-

In Thursday action the 2-1 Vikings still feeling the effects of week 1s adversity, traveled to the westside to play the 1-2 Ed White Commanders in another unusual time slot for high school football. Coming off a short week of preparation as the Viks defeated Firscoast 34-8 the previous Saturday at 10:0am, Head Coach Deran Wiley would have his team well prepared for the 5:30 start time to face the Commanders who would be looking to get back in the win column after a 13-6 loss to Baker Co. The Vikings defense led by Aric Horne, Javon Bonsell , and Janorris Robertson gave nothing outside of a 2nd quarter 49yd td scamper by Isaiah Flowers who continues to find to end zone in all the 2k18 Commander games from spring to week 3. Flowers would also come into the game as the areas 4th leading rusher with 340 yards. Outside of that run the Vikings defense was able to stifle the Commanders offense to a dismal -19 total yards. The defense would even get on the board with a safety to help clock the Commanders.

Brandon Marshall would start the 1st quarter scoring frenzy by catching a screen pass from Coates, taking a screen pass 40yds to the goal line before running it in for a score on 4th down to take the early 7-0 lead. A quick Commanders punt would be a reoccurring theme thanks to Horne, Bonsell, and Robertson. On the Viks 2nd possession Coates would scramble for 30yds to set up Marshall 1yd td score and a 13-0 lead. Another Commanders punt would lead to a Coates 40yd td strike to Thomas and before the bands could get settled in the Viks would be up 19-0 at the end of Q1. On the Commanders ensuing possession they would recover a bad snap in the endzone to give Raines a momentary 21-0 lead. Coates would march the Vikings str8 down the field and cap it off with a short td run. the score would be 28-0 after the kick with 8:12 to play in the 2nd quarter. Ced Woodson would take the kick return 31yds to the 49 where Isaiah Flowers would take it home on the next play to cut the score to 28-6. Both teams would trade punts and the Viks would find pay dirt again when Coates would deliver a 30yd td strike to Griffin. The Vikings would take a 35-6 lead with just over 4:00 to play in Q2. The Commanders would get a punt blocked to set the Viks up inside the 20yd line but DB Ced Woodson would come away with a diving int for the Commanders. Raines would lead it 35-6 at the half

COACH WILEY CHALLENGING HIS TEAM TO KEEP THEIR FOOT ON THE GAS

To open the 2nd half Marshall would respond to Wiley's challenge of keeping their foot on the gas by gashing the Commanders for a 38yd td run. Jamond Handy would add another TD run to stretch the Viks lead to 48-6 after the defense forced and recovered a fumble. With a 42 point lead the clock would continue to run as a light rain shower would be the only thing Thursday that could cool off the Vikings offense. Raines would win the game 48-6. Brandon marshall would finish with 117 rushing yards and 3 tds. Barron Coates would finish with 144 pass yards and 3 total TDs. The Vikings will be on the road next week as they travel to face 3-0 Fletcher and 1-2 Mandarin.
